Continental Airlines has just placed 148 pilots “on furlough” as part of its negotiations to try to cut its pilot count by 326 through “voluntary measures.” This actually represents a victory for the pilots union since 500 cap-wearers were initially sent furlough notices.

A French judge is holding Continental Airlines and five individuals responsible for the 2000 Concorde crash that killed 113 when it slammed into a hotel shortly after taking off. The trial is expected to take place in 2009. Here’s a video with some pictures and footage of the crash:

The airline that the AP calls “one of the healthiest of the big six carriers” has axed 3,000 jobs and reduced its numbers of flights. In a company memo, executives Lawrence Kellner and President Jeffrey Smisek wrote that since prices were rising, Continental “will need fewer employees to operate the airline.”
