American Airlines will celebrate another month that its still in business by laying off another group of employees.
Revenues rose 5% to around $6 billion, but the company lost $1.45 billion. This was better than Wall Street expected, so the stock is getting a nice boost.
Yesterday, American Airlines announced that it would be pushing 900 flight attendants out the airlock. Today, however, they clarified this statement and said it would be more like 6,500. The good news is that they took my advice and are using the exact same Tim Wagner quote to justify it:
“These are difficult but necessary changes, given the unprecedented challenges we face with overcapacity in the industry, skyrocketing fuel prices and a worsening U.S. economy”
Surprise, surprise — American Airlines is firing more flight attendants. A spokesman for the airline gave this stock quote to the press:
“These are difficult, but necessary changes given the unprecedented challenges we face with overcapacity in the industry, skyrocketing fuel prices, and a worsening U.S. economy” - - Tim Wagner
These airline spokespeople never seem to be able to come up with anything original to say. Maybe American Airlines should start firing spokespeople instead of flight attendants.
