Layoffs

The New York TimesGawker is running with the rumor that The New York Times is planning deep cuts in its newsroom for 2009. Its no secret that the company’s advertising revenues have dropped significantly and the economic downturn certainly isn’t going to help, but a 20% cut in the newsroom seems like overkill. The article mentions that most of the cuts will be in “softer sections” and the Times Magazine, but doesn’t cite any sources for its claims. Gawker, you rogue.
