Layoffs

Aetna suit won’t say how many employees will be laid off

November 13, 2008

AetnaHealth insurer Aetna has decided to terrify employees by announcing “selective” layoffs, but refusing to elaborate on when and how many. The company’s chief blowhard, Ronald Williams, went on the record with this tired diatribe:

“The bottom line is that most U.S. businesses anticipate a major economic slowdown in 2009 and are taking steps to streamline their organizations and cut costs. We must do the same.”

I wonder if Ronald is going to “streamline” the amount of cash he takes from Aetna? Last year it was a cool $23 million. I’m just saying…

Great going Aetna. Why don’t you ask Ron Williams about all the jobs Aetna ships overseas? A good amount of claim processing is done in Ireland or India……..

They have already started the lay offs. My supervisor got laid off this morning, along with 4 more (Jax, fl.)

My boss and my friend out of Tampa, FL who is a supervisor said she was laid off, her supervisor was laid off and she had to laid off 17 more from her team. And for what we hear from the rumor mill, because management is not talking right now, there are many more to go!!!

Yes, it started today. I work in Tampa, FL. I was told 17 people total are to be laid off. This wasn’t formally announced as some people were on vacation. It was horable for this to happen a week before the holidays.

yeah this is a terrible thing for sure… they could have at least waited until after the holidays.

Yep, 17 people today from Tampa’s disability department alone. Some ppl who’ve been here less than 1 yr, one guy was here 40+ years. It’s devastating one wk before Christmas. How many jobs could have been saved if Ron Williams gave up $1 million of his $23 million salary???

i was layed off today along with half of my coworkers in my office. they also closed the entire department that do the same work as mine in two other states. when we asked if they were cutting in india they said no. when asked why they would hurt the economy in the US more with these layoffs they said that many other company’s outsource and they had to continue to do so to remain competative and that they could not be the company to take a stand on that issue. i am very disappointed in them

Ron Williams is a greedy low life piece of trash. people like him do not deserve to run a company, I only wish i worked at Aetna long enough to be close to him so i could spit in his face!

Its downright sickening to see how many brown people now work at aetna versus full time employees. I wonder how much longer they will keep any americans working at the company? Its been a constant flood for the last eight years and more and more come every day. Last I heard it was 70% brown people versus FTE.

I left Aetna in November when they first started posting those possible layoff messages. It upset and angered many of us at the time. They started the layoffs in that office yesterday, and it was not pretty. So far only supervisors…not sure if the ax is going to fall on the CSRs yet. (Dover office)
